Ball Seed: “Do Not Buy” List for Cut Flowers + Bulbs

Ball Seed’s cut-flower catalogue gives Danziger an identified section, with scabiosa, gypsophila, limonium, and other crops arranged for growers to order. Elsewhere in Ball’s listings are Yodfat anemone series and bulbs offered through Ednie. These are different ways of bringing plants into the catalogue: a marketed breeding assortment, named bulb programs, and a distribution agreement.

Under the arrangement described in Ball’s November 2020 announcement, Ednie continued under Joseph Simone and the den Breejen family, responsible for its bulb supply chain and technical support, with exclusive distribution through Ball Seed. The earlier version of this page incorrectly described Ednie as a wholly owned Ball subsidiary.

The distinction changes what a grower can reasonably ask Ball to do. A distributor can change the assortment it offers or require information from a supplier even when it doesn’t own the breeding company. A bulb’s producer may need to be identified further back in the order. And a familiar variety name can remain the same when its country of production changes. The catalogue is the beginning of that inquiry, with some entries much easier to trace than others.

The boycott criterion

I don’t buy Danziger material, and I apply an exclusion to the identified Israeli breeding and production routes below, as well as Helix’s documented commercial partnerships with Israeli producers. My reason is solidarity with Palestinians and participation in economic pressure on the businesses sustaining those agricultural relationships. A grower’s order helps sustain the commercial demand for a program; a coordinated refusal gives the distributor and its suppliers a specific relationship to change. The amount retained by each business, including any royalty, cannot be reconstructed from a catalogue listing alone.

Palestinian-led BDS calls for ending occupation and colonization and dismantling the Wall, full equality for Palestinian citizens of Israel, and refugees’ right to return under UN Resolution 194. Its corporate boycott guidance identifies priority campaigns and the role of strategic target selection. The product selections here are my application of that political commitment to horticultural sourcing; BDS has not individually designated every cultivar on this page.

The history behind my Danziger exclusion includes the company’s location in Mishmar ha-Shiv’a, established on Bayt Dajan’s lands after the displacement of its Palestinian residents in 1948. That account is developed in the Danziger article. The earlier blanket claim on this page that the listed bulbs were grown on occupied land did not identify a production site. It has been removed. The histories of 1948 and the territories occupied in 1967 cannot be substituted for one another, and neither establishes the location of an unidentified bulb farm.

Verified Ball listings

The grouped names below come from Ball’s linked 2025–26 cut-flower catalogue and public product records checked October 12, 2026. The source notes identify which record supports each group. A dated catalogue entry can establish that Ball offered a program without confirming stock for the week an order is needed.

Danziger’s marketed cut-flower assortment

The following groups are in Ball’s 2025–26 catalogue, which remained linked from its literature page at this check. The Danziger section runs from printed pages 67–75 (viewer pages 69–77). It includes both Danziger breeding and other breeders’ material marketed through its network.

Hybrid asters: Blanca; Camilla; Liz; Pearla; Primavera.

Caryopteris Pagoda: Dark Pink; Lagoon.

Craspedia Paintball: Globe; Jumbo; Pop; Poppy.

These groups appear on printed pages 67–68. Paintball at Ball should not be confused with the Benary Solar Pop currently listed by Farmer Bailey.

Gypsophila: Andromeda; Beauty Bride; Cassiopeia; Dynamic Love; Million Clouds; Million Daisy; Million Stars; Million Stars II; My Pink; My White Cosmic; White Victoria; Xcite; XLence; XLence Endure; Xtremy.

My White Cosmic is one name. The older version of this list incorrectly split it into My White and Cosmic. Ball catalogue, gypsophila and hypericum.

Hypericum Brisk: Chili Pepper; Green Lime; White Coconut.

Hypericum Globo: Applegreen; Burgundy; Champagne; Coral; Punch; Raspberry; Ruby.

Keep the compound Brisk names together, and Coral and Punch separate. There is also a version difference to resolve before ordering: Ball’s linked catalogue places White Coconut under Brisk, while Danziger’s newer 2026–27 edition places White Coconut under Globo. The newer edition does not show Globo Champagne. I have retained the documented Ball names rather than asserting that the two White Coconut listings are identical. Ask for the current program and availability if either appears on a quotation.

Limonium and statice

Piuma: Dark Blue; Pink Touch; Sky.

Safora: Blue-Tiful; Classic Blue; Dark Blue; Light Blue; Lilac; Oshi Pink.

Supreme: Bluenight; Whitelight.

Sensy: Lemonade; Nectarine; Pinacolada; Pink Beauty; Tip-Top.

Separately named limonium: Enchanté; Splendid Blue.

Bluenight and Whitelight belong under Supreme. Enchanté is a named selection, rather than the unspecified “various colors” in the earlier article. Ball limonium page.

Statice / Limonium sinuatum:

  • Sinuet: Blue Impulse; Eternal Pink; Honey Apricot; Max Yellow; Up Pink.

  • Orizon: Pink; Violet.

  • Superta: Blue; Dark Blue; Pink; Purple; Vermilion; Yellow.

  • Individually named selections in the marketed assortment: Crone Violet; Gravure Pink; Magnum Blue; Noir; Premio Pink; Space Lavender; White Delight.

Ball prints the Orizon names within the Sinuet assortment; the newer Danziger catalogue distinguishes Orizon by name. Both colors are kept together here so they can be recognized without confusing them with phlox. The individually named statice collection includes Kaneko material marketed through Danziger, rather than exclusively Danziger breeding. Ball statice page; Danziger’s Kaneko attribution.

Kolster’s Magical material in Ball’s listings

Phlox Magical: PassionZ; Pink EyeZ; Pink TendernesZ; Purple FeelingZ; Purple IllusionZ; SnowdropZ.

Pink TendernesZ is one name. The blue, apricot, yellow, and Orizon statice entries that previously appeared in the phlox list have been moved above. Ball uses Purple FeelingZ; Kolster’s current phlox page uses FeelingZ. Keep the actual order label and clarify a discrepancy rather than assuming two labels prove identical material. Ball phlox page.

Achillea Magical / yarrow: Angeles; Atlanta; Chicago; Orlando; Orleans; Phoenix; Sacramento; White Francisco.

All eight were listed as unrooted cuttings in Ball’s public catalogue, searched for “Achillea Magical” on October 12. This adds supplier evidence that the fourth-edition inventory did not yet have. Danziger’s 2026–27 catalogue labels the new yarrow program for 2026 trials and 2027; confirm the actual supply season. Cotton Candy is not added here merely because Farmer Bailey lists it.

These Magical entries concern Kolster breeding and a documented Danziger production or marketing relationship. They do not establish that every product using the Magical name passes through the same program.

Scabiosa

Scoop: Banana; Blackberry; Candy; Coconut; Dark Cherry; Lavender; Marshmallow Improved; Raspberry; Raspberry Ripple; Red Apple; Red Velvet; Sweet Cherry.

Focal Scoop: Berrybliss; Bicolor Pink; Cranberry; Dark Purple; Hot Pink; Lavender; Lilac; Popsicle; Purple Lace; White Improved.

Hoop Scoop: Lavender; Strawberry.

Bon Bon Scoop: Dark Lavender; French Vanilla; Maraschino Cherry; Merlot; Pink Peppermint; Punch; Sweetness; Teaberry; Ube.

These are the Ball selections, not a combined list of every Scoop variety offered by other suppliers. Bon Bon; Focal and Hoop; Scoop.

Veronica, solidago, and lepidium

Veronica Skyler: Blue; Pink; White.

Skyler Splash: Blue; Pink; White.

Solidago: Golden Glory; Monte de Oro; Moonlight Glory; Romantic Glory; Solar Glory; Sunny Glory.

These are documented on Ball’s veronica and solidago page. Ball identifies Skyler as Veronica longifolia; the earlier V. spicata label is removed.

Lepidium: Green Dragon. It appears on printed page 25 and in Ball’s Danziger growing resources. This is a named commercial selection, not a restriction on every kind of pepper cress.

Yodfat anemone series actually listed by Ball

Yodfat identifies the following series, and the listed variants below were observed in Ball WebTrack on October 12. The crop is Anemone coronaria.

  • Carmel: Albino; Blue; Bordeaux; Mix; Pastel Mix; Pink; Red; White.

  • Fullstar: Albino; Blue; Bordeaux; Lavender; Mix; Pink; Pink White; Red; Red White; Strawberry.

  • Galilee: Blue; Mix; Pastel Mix; Pink; Red; White.

  • Jerusalem: Blue; Blue White; Mix; Pink; Red; Red White.

  • Meron: Blue; Bordeaux; Mix; Pink; Red.

  • Rainbow: Albino; Barbie; Blue White; Flashy Pink; Flashy Rose; Frisky Red; Jaguar; Lavender; Milky; Mix; Pastel Violet; Pink White; Red White.

Carmel, Fullstar, and Rainbow are supported additions to this supplier-specific page. Some colors in the old Jerusalem, Galilee, and Meron lists did not have a current Ball match and have been removed. Search the full series and color together; a generic anemone listing does not establish the same relationship.

Helix Australia: documented Ball product, availability unconfirmed

Helix describes itself as an Australian-owned breeding, marketing, and licensing business. Its partner directory names Saidi Ronen and Hochberg Export Ornamental Plants in Israel, alongside partners in other countries. I exclude its material because those partnerships support Israeli participation in its production and export network. The partner directory does not identify the growing location or payment route of an individual waxflower order. Helix company description.

My Sweet 16 waxflower has both a Ball product reference and a Helix catalogue connection. Current ordering availability was not established. It is therefore a documented product to ask about, not a live-stock claim.

Sarah’s Delight, Dancing Queen, Strawberry Surprise, Moonlight Delight, and Raspberry Ripple appear in Helix’s broader catalogue, but a Ball listing was not verified for them. They are not added to the Ball purchasing list. Matilda has a Ball reference, but the claimed Helix relationship was not established; it has been removed from this section rather than treated as a confirmed Helix product.

Paperwhites and Aviv: check the actual producer and origin

Ball’s current product records or linked Ednie pot-forcing catalogue document paperwhite labels Ziva, Inbal, Ariel, Nir, and Nazareth. Yodfat separately lists production of Ziva, Inbal, Ariel, and Nir. That overlap is a reason to ask about the lot being offered; it does not establish that Yodfat supplies every bulb sold under those names.

The Ednie catalogue prints Nazareth (Nir), while WebTrack lists Nazareth and Nir separately. Retain the supplier’s order label and ask for clarification if it affects the decision. Galilee is documented by Yodfat but was not verified as a current Ball offering. Other paperwhites are not added merely because they belong to the same crop.

Ball’s June 2023 sourcing note described anemones and paperwhites imported from Israel. It is dated evidence of a supply route, not a guarantee of origin for every current order.

The earlier Aviv list is no longer presented as verified Ball inventory. A current Ball listing and producer were not established in this check. If Aviv appears in a quotation, ask who produced that lot and where; the series name alone does not identify every worldwide production route.

Correction: Amandine has been removed. The prior Yodfat/Israeli attribution was wrong; Ball’s Ednie ranunculus catalogue identifies the French Amandine program and Comptoir Paulinois.

Checking a quotation

For entries tied to a named breeding or marketing program, match the complete series and variety. For paperwhites or another origin-dependent decision, request the actual producer and country of production of the lot being offered. Keep that answer with the quotation so an eventual substitution can be checked against it.

The Farmer Bailey plug reference covers a different supplier’s selections. A variety confirmed there is not automatically a Ball offering.
